From mudlarking to drumming! On this episode of The Backpack Show with Chris Brogan and Kerry O'Shea Gorgone, we'll talk with Lara Maiklem, known as “London Mudlark,” author of the book "Mudlarking." (A mudlark is “someone who scavenges in river mud for items of value, a term used especially to describe those who scavenged this way in London during the late 18th and 19th centuries.”) We’ll talk with Lara about reclaiming bits of history from the muck along the river Thames, and the lessons we can learn from exploring our little corner of the world.
We’ll also meet “the godmother of drumming,” Dorothea Taylor. She started playing drums at 13 and joined a band after she graduated high-school. Dorothea’s been playing percussion now for 57 years, teaching off and on the whole time. She’s played in all kinds of bands and done all sorts of gigs. We’ll talk with Dorothea about relentlessly pursuing her passion, demolishing all sorts of stereotypes along the way.
